About Roberto Bertollini

I am a MD and MPH with more than 30 years of professional work in public health. I have hold senior positions both in the Italian National Health System and, for the 25 years at the World Health Organization. At the moment I am the advisor for public health of the Minister of Health of Qatar. My whole career has been devoted to the improvement of public health in areas such as chronic diseases, maternal and child health and, more extensively, in the relationship between environment and health. I was particularly involved in the development of the climate change and health agenda in Europe and at the global level. Throughout my experience I have built up a solid institutional knowledge of the UN system and more recently of the European Union institutions; I have led groups of researchers and public health officials of different sizes (from a few to hundreds) and different level of seniority. I enjoy teaching and mentoring young people in public health and I did it in both university and WHO led programmes. I strongly believe in the need to improve the link and dialogue between science and policy and I have recently devoted my professional interest and work to this dimension.
