About Roberto Corona

Roberto Corona is interested in understanding how emotions, culture, our coping strategies and illness representations influence health decision making and behaviors such as seeking healthcare, treatment adherence, screening utilization, diet and exercise, and sleep quality. He is also interested in identifying factors that are associated with health disparities including race and ethnicity, age and gender, personality and language, self and emotion regulation, socio economic status, and other psychosocial factors. Roberto has worked extensively on research assessing the cognitive and executive functioning of dementia patients and the related caregiver burden and distress; stress, coping, and sleep quality within prostate cancer survivors; as a research consultant with the National Cancer Institutes on a text message based intervention (Mhealth) promoting a healthy diet, increased physical activity, and smoking cessation (Healthyyoutxt); and with valley fever survivors to understand their experiences in receiving a diagnosis, challenges with cost of treatment and side effects, factors that impact their quality of life, and the presence of enacted or perceived stigma. Roberto loves to teach, mentor, and advise students in all levels of education. He is also an experienced behavior specialist who works with children diagnosed with Autism, developmentally disabled adults, and has university level teaching experience. Lastly, Roberto is passionate about guiding individuals to behaviors and beliefs that enable them to live an energized and healthier lifestyle and as a result a better quality of life.
