Background
About Roberto Giolito
Joins the Fiat Style Centre in 1989, dealing in the beginning of innovative prototypes with electric traction. His first realization, which he is author of the design of interior and exterior, is the Fiat Downtown, which is presented at the Geneva Motor Show 1993 in a fully functional and marching version. In the same year he began to develop a concept of compact minivan, which will bring the company to present and produce the Fiat Multipla people mover vehicle, as the first six places,(only 4 meters long), with the innovative concept of two rows of seats with three placed side by side. In 2002 Giolito is the first director of the new Advanced Design Center of the Fiat Group, where will take shape the first concept car inspired by the icon of the old 500,(Trepiùno, Geneva 2004), and many other vehicles that come later in production, as Fiat Grande Punto and the Fiat Qubo. In 2007 he debuts with the new Fiat 500, which also gets the recognition of Car of the Year, and the same year Giolito is appointed Head of the Fiat & Abarth Design in Turin. In 2008 is awarded by Automotive News magazine as Eurostar 2008, and from the President of the Italian Republic gets the award for Innovation in the Design section, along with two other Italian designers. In 2008 his first project for the Brazilian market is launched with the Fiat UNO, followed 2 years later by the Giolito designed new Fiat Palio. In 2011 the Fiat 500 is awarded with the European “Compasso d’Oro”. In 2012 Giolito is promoted Design Vice President for the EMEA region of Fiat Chrysler, to oversee the entire range of new products of the brands of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Design Executive, oversees design development of the Fiat, Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati and Fiat Professional products until October 2015. He’s also Head of Heritage department, with responsibility on the company owned historical vehicles collections, and the related events and activities. Roberto Giolito, a key figure in the automotive world, founded the FCA/Stellantis Heritage Department to preserve the legacy of Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, and Abarth. He established the Heritage HUB in Turin, showcasing over 300 historic vehicles, and launched Officine Classiche, dedicated to restoration and certification of classic cars. Creator of the Reloaded by Creators program, he combines restoration with the sale of rare models. A global ambassador of Italian automotive culture, he organizes events and initiatives celebrating the design and engineering of Made in Italy excellence.
