About Robin Drew

As Dean of Engineering and Computer Science at Concordia University from 2008-2013, I presided over a Faculty of 3,300 undergraduates and nearly 2,300 graduate students, approximately 170 academic faculty members and 125 technical and support staff. I oversaw a Faculty budget of $54 million. A Strategic Action Plan was developed in 2009 aimed to bolster research and teaching Signature Areas in energy, environment, aerospace, nanotechnology, telecommunications as well as cyber security and forensics. All seven undergraduate programs received full accreditation for six years with no conditions in June 2012, which is unprecedented at Concordia. Previously, at McGill University as Chair of the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering, I provided leadership and stewardship for 8 years. During my tenure, the department made a paradigm shift away from traditional metallurgy, mining and processing to become a modern department of Materials Engineering, which included a vibrant Mining Engineering group. My research expertise is in advanced materials, primarily specializing in ceramics, metal-ceramic interactions, composites, joining and I have recently developed an interest in metal foams as well as biomaterials.
