Background

About Robin Joseph

I have been providing mental health services to adolescents and young adults for 10 years in a variety of settings including outpatient community health organizations, residential treatment centers and juvenile detention centers throughout Washington DC and Northern Virginia. I utilize a holistic person-centered, goal directed practice designed to enhance existing skills while targeting barriers interfering with the achievement of personal and professional goals. I specialize in developing mental health awareness and psycho-education curriculums designed to educate transition age youth about mental illness, teach activities of daily living (ADL’s) and create opportunities for peer socialization. My therapeutic approach is comprised from a variety of treatment modalities including: cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). I have experience working with individuals with mood and anxiety disorders, high functioning autism, grief and loss concerns, phase of life issues, self-esteem and personal development deficits, trauma, conflictual relationships and familial stressors. As a Certified Mental Health First Aid Trainer, I facilitate trainings aimed at reducing the stigma associated with mental illness and teach community members how to assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use- related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help.Currently, my goal is to connect with like-minded professionals to share information and create opportunities to enrich our personal and professional development; so feel free to reach out.
