About Robin Mazumder

I’m a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Future Cities Institute at the University of Waterloo, where I lead transdisciplinary research exploring how cities can be designed to support mental health, equity, and wellbeing. My work integrates virtual reality, wearable tech, and machine learning to examine the relationship between urban environments and human experience. Previously, I held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at TU Berlin, where I used mobile neuroimaging in both real and virtual spaces to advance the emerging field of neurourbanism. I earned my PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Waterloo (2020), where I studied how city living affects psychological and physiological wellbeing using psychophysiological methods in naturalistic settings. My research is deeply informed by my earlier career as a mental health occupational therapist, working directly with people in the urban fabric. I’m passionate about democratizing access to knowledge, and regularly engage in public outreach through writing, social media (@robinmazumder), and public speaking. Over the past five years, I’ve delivered 50+ invited talks across the globe on the neuroscience of cities and urban wellbeing.
