About Robin Tyson

Essentially I like helping people protect their inventions. I am an experienced Patent Attorney, having joined the profession in 1994. I have substantial experience of advising clients with a diverse range of interests and sizes, including: assisting inventors from UK universities; acting for multi-national corporations; advising start-up companies and private individuals. My expertise in drafting and prosecuting patents includes in technologies such as: semiconductor lithography; optics; electronics, including consumer electronics and semiconductor devices; materials science, such as solid-state gas emissions sensors; signal processing in fields such as telecommunications and medical imaging; bioinformatics; software; automotive components; wind turbines and tidal turbines; and general mechanics and engineering. I also have considerable experience providing advocacy for clients at hearings before the European Patent Office, both defending clients' patent rights and opposing third party patents on behalf of clients. Outside of Patents: I am married to Hazel and have two children. My interests include playing in a badminton club, spending time with my family, and am in the middle of a garden restoration project. I also have a passion for maps and railways. I took up football management for one of my children's teams, because work just wasn't stressful enough! They reached the cup final for their age group in a county-wide league in their first season with me in charge. In my second season as manager, the team achieved a League and Cup double. I have now retired from football management after a couple of seasons of mid-table obscurity. I enjoy quizzes, so applied to be on the TV quiz "The Chase", passed the audition, recorded my program during lock-down in 2021, and it was broadcast in January 2022. I was the best player on my team by far, but sadly, we didn't win the prize.
