Background

About Robin Warren

Robin Warren - Freelance Audio Producer And Sound Designer. Boundlessly creative and passionate advocate for the power of sound in telling stories and uniting voices. Uniquely talented at editing disparate elements into a compelling narrative. Perhaps better known under my pseudonym of 'Robin The Fog', I am a radio producer, broadcaster, sound artist and self-described 'devout catalyst' based in London. My work includes broadcast journalism and documentary, sound recording, mixing and editing and frequently requires a finely honed ability to think as both a producer and a sound engineer simultaneously. Over the last few years I have produced innumerable news features, documentaries and sound designs for Radio 4, 6 Music, Radio 3, BBC World Service, ABC Australia and Deutsche Welle, Tate Britain, London's Science Museum and many more. I have twice appeared as a guest expert on Stuart Maconie’s Freakier Zone, had original work commissioned by Radio 3’s Late junction and created numerous sound designs for BBC Radio 4 dramas, where some of my more unusual roles included a chimpanzee attacking a Range Rover, a Skeleton playing Bagpipes and the inside of a humpback whale. In 2016 my short radio play ‘Afrofuturist 419’, produced in collaboration with multiple award-winning US author Nnedi Okorafor, was broadcast throughout Africa on Boxing Day and featured in esteemed periodical Clarkesworld Magazine. It required the single-handed invention an entire deep space soundscape on a shoestring budget, including tentacle-waving alien horror created from nothing more than paper and soap. More recent commissions have included the sound of Van Gogh in his bedroom for the museum in Amsterdam dedicated to his work. I do love my job! Outside of broadcast media, I produce experimental 'radiophonic' compositions under the name Howlround and have lectured on creative use of sound at such institutions as Guildhall School, Cambridge University, the ICA and my current position at Morley College. I get tremendous satisfaction from inspiring others to change the way they think about the world around them and unlock their own creative potential.
