About Robin Young

I am a scientist and educator with experience in adult education, large-scale course coordination, education support, curriculum development and e-learning. I use evidence-based, active learning methods, and work diligently to incorporate transferable skills such as critical thinking, communication, and teamwork into my classes. Graduate students who work as teaching assistants in my courses are also supported and mentored to help them achieve their career goals. My collaborative, proactive, and engaging approach allows students of all levels to be actively involved in their own education, and to tailor it to help them achieve their goals. I try to build a collaborative team environment that best supports my fellow instructors, and to mentor teaching assistants to help them gain valuable teaching experience. My research background is in cell biology, with a focus on using light and electron microscopy to examine ultrastructure of organelles in both plants and animals. I'm an expert in electron tomography, and cryo-electron microscopy techniques, as well as having competencies in confocal microscopy, 2-photon microscopy and plant molecular biology techniques.
