About Robyn Lacy

Dr. Robyn Lacy is a motivated and enthusiastic archaeologist and heritage professional with 14 years experience in the heritage sector. She co-owns Black Cat Cemetery Preservation, providing professional burial ground conservation services to the northeast of Canada. She holds a PhD and Master of Arts in Archaeology from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and a BA in Archaeology from the University of Calgary. Robyn frequently published articles on archaeology in peer-reviewed journals, on her website, and published her first book in 2020. She has worked across Canada, as well as in Ireland, and the Isle of Man. She has been successful in her field because of her team-oriented approach, fostering a comfortable learning environment for individuals who are new to the field. Her approach is unique because she has extensive hands-on experience directing and planning excavations, presenting heritage to the public, and has been told that her enthusiasm for heritage is infectious and makes others excited about the research too. She currently works in Museum Education, & enjoys researching new ways to present NL history and archaeology to the public. In addition to archaeological excavation, she has experience evaluating the heritage integrity and physical condition of heritage structures, recording properties for perpetuity, and preparing reports to municipal, provincial, and federal standards. Her second book,'Daisy Wheel, Hexfoil, Hexafoil, Rosette: Protective Marks in Gravestone Art' was published in 2024. KEY COMPETENCIES: archaeological fieldwork, standing buildings survey, archival research, historic document interpretation, collections management, burial ground survey, preventive conservation of artifacts, illustration, field team management, site planning and directing, academic writing. In her spare time, Robyn is an amateur painter, and enjoy spending time hiking, camping, rock climbing, and travelling with her partner.
