About Robyn Onion

I am a Registered Mental Health Nurse practising as a Clinical Nurse / Mental Health Clinician in the clinical team at Stride Mental Health. I have a background in lived experience, and I am completing a bridge program to gain my provisional psychology registration. My career goal is to work towards gaining registration as a clinical psychologist. I am a passionate, driven, and focused Mental Health Nurse who has completed a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Nursing and who is experienced in providing safe and thorough patient care across diverse specialty areas. I strive to have strong results in my clinical outcomes and develop meticulous patient care abilities and a passion for delivering patient-centered, holistic care. With a high level of cultural capability, I have worked with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and respect the importance of the diverse beliefs, religions, and cultural history of patients and team members. My personal beliefs are that culture shapes how we see and make sense of the world, and it influences our behaviours and interactions. I can practice independently and interdependently, am accountable for my actions, and understand the importance of delegation of care. Further, I possess a wealth of life experience and have demonstrated my resilience and focus during challenging times to reach my goals. My lived experiences of DFV and SA, as well as personal challenges in raising two terminally ill sons with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and having lost a baby, and my eldest son in 2019, have enabled me to understand the mental and physical challenges faced by individuals. This has fuelled my passion for wanting to help others at vulnerable times in their life. I am passionate about self-growth and continued learning. In my current job, I have completed dialectical behavioural therapy courses and acted as a co-facilitator and observer support for our virtual and in-person courses; I am also very passionate and use in my current role with my clients motivation interviewing techniques.
