About Rod Lane

I am a leader in the education sector. My career mission is to drive change and improvement in our school systems so that every student is equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to achieve their goals. I have experience in all aspects of the sector, enabling me to take a holistic approach to every project. I spent ten years as a high school teacher in Australia, I have a PhD in Education focusing on students' understanding and conceptual change, and I worked as a teacher educator at Macquarie University where I became Deputy Head of School and an Associate Professor. I played a significant role in developing the most recent Australian and New South Wales curricula and consulted to numerous schools on its implementation. I currently lead Learning and Innovation for the New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA), a non-government organisation, responsible for the training and support of the leadership of New Zealand schools. My personal passion is to increase students’ understanding and commitment to environmental sustainability and active citizenship. I have an honour’s degree in geography, I have penned ten prominent Australian secondary school textbooks, and I have won numerous international teaching awards related to innovations in teaching. Even though I am currently working in the school leadership sector, I remain engaged in educational research. In 2022, I instigated and coedited a book to analyse and promote best practice assessment in geography teaching internationally. I am interested in connecting with anyone working in the fields of learning innovation, curriculum design and student-centered pedagogy. ResearchGate profile -
