About Rodney Hicks

I have been committed to continual innovation and improvement in nuclear medicine as both a diagnostic and therapeutic modality. I was a pioneer of clinical PET in Australia, establishing our facility at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in 1996, and installed one of the first PET/CT systems in the world in 2001. I have been actively involved in the development and validation of novel imaging probes and have also pioeered the development of radionuclide therapy in Australia, especially the use of Sr-89, I-131 MIBG, I-131 rituxan, octreotide, Lu-177 octreotate and Lu177 PSMA. The treatment of neuroendocrine tumours and neuroblastoma are of particular interest to me. My clinical activities are underpinned by a strong interest in fundamental and translational research. I am passionate about advocacy on behalf of patients with rare cancers who are discriminated against by a system that values large industry-funded studies in common cancers above personalised medicine based on unique characterisation of the patient and their disease. I have recently founded a new company, Precision Molecular Imaging and Theranostics (PreMIT Pty Ltd) to accelerate development of novel theranostic paradigms, leveraging my experience of 30 years in the field and extensive academic and industry collaborative network.
