About Rodney Luker

I studied in Adelaide and Sydney and joined the predecessor law firm to Hume Taylor & Co (namely Griffin Hume & Co) in 1977, the year I was admitted as a legal practitioner in both South Australia and New South Wales. I enjoyed general legal practice immensely but concentrated on tax, business law, commercial law, trusts, estates, succession planning and inheritance claims from early in my career. I have worked with numerous private business clients and, in many cases, their accountants and/or financial advisers in contentious and non-contentious matters. I have managed significant litigious contested deceased estate matters involving high net worth estates with assets in multiple jurisdictions. I remained a Partner at Hume Taylor & Co until 30 June 2018. I then took on a part time role within the firm as Special Counsel for two years before becoming a Consultant to the firm on 1 July 2020. I was a Registered Tax Agent from 1980 until I retired as a Partner, during that time marrying tax work with legal practice. I remain keenly involved with The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners ('STEP')- advising families across the generations. In 2023 I was re-elected as a Director on the Board of Directors of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Limited (limited by guarantee - incorporated in England and Wales). I was subsequently re-elected as a global Deputy Chair of that Board of Directors twice - for 2024 and 2025.
