About Rodney McCoy

Rodney McCoy, Jr. has been in the public health field for over 30 years. Mr. McCoy brings his professional expertise and lived experience to public health prevention and education. An Oberlin College graduate with his Bachelors in Sociology and Black Studies, Mr. McCoy has worked in a variety of capacities from Health Educator to Program Director for several organizations including Minority Task Force on AIDS; New York City Department of Health; Whitman Walker Health; National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA), NovaSalud, Inc, and HealthHIV. Mr. McCoy has also served as a consultant for the National Association for State Mental Health Program Directors, where he contributed to the development of and presented their trauma-informed care curriculum. As a consultant with Ribbon Consulting, he continues his education on trauma-informed care. In his time as Adjunct Professor at George Mason University, Mr. McCoy taught for the school’s Global and Community Health Department (where he still presents as a guest lecturer). He is currently a Health Impact Specialist with the DC Department of Health, where he has provided support to the DC Office of Health Equity, Voices for a Second Chance and the HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD and Tuberculosis Administration (HAHSTA). Specialties: Experienced Program Coordinator with a demonstrated history of working in the non-profit organization management industry. Skilled in Nonprofit Organizations, Program Evaluation, Community Organizing, Program Development, and Community Outreach. Strong community and social services professional with a Bachelor’s Degree focused in Sociology, Black Studies (Double Major) from Oberlin College, and earning his Masters in Education
