About Rodrigo Sandoval

Dr. Rodrigo Sandoval is a heart surgeon with a particular passion for paediatric heart surgery. For him, this specialty combines what medicine is all about: high-precision surgical skills, in-depth specialist knowledge - and, above all, a genuine human concern. For him, every child with a congenital heart defect is more than just a patient: it is a little person with a big story who deserves a life full of possibilities. His medical career began in Guatemala, where he completed a practice-oriented course of study under challenging conditions. With the aim of becoming a heart surgeon, he emigrated to Germany - and completed his specialist training in cardiac surgery in a minimum of time. During this time, he gained in-depth surgical experience in both adult and pediatric cardiac surgery. As a staff surgeon, he independently performed complex cardiac surgery on adults - including bypass operations (on- and off-pump), valve replacement operations and operations for aortic dissections. At the same time, he remained closely involved in pediatric cardiac surgery, including operations on atrial septal defects (ASD) and other congenital heart defects. Research also remains a central concern for him: with over 30 scientific publications, he actively contributes to the further development and safety of cardiac and pediatric heart surgery. Dr. Sandoval is currently deepening his specialization as part of a fellowship in paediatric cardiac surgery at the renowned Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto (Canada). In the long term, he sees his role not only in operating, but also in helping to shape future medical care - particularly in pediatric cardiac surgery and a growing group of patients: adults with congenital heart defects.
