About Rodrigo Verschae

Rodrigo Verschae is currently an Associate Professor at Universidad de O'Higgins, Chile where he is working on Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, with applications to Agriculture, Health, Education and Energy Management, among other topics. From 2020 to 2023 he was Director of the Institute of Engineering Sciences. Rodrigo was also Director of the PAR Explora O'Higgins project (2019-2024) project of the Ministry of Science and Technology that seeks to promote science in schools and among the general public in region of O'Higgins, Chile. Rodrigo received his Doctoral degree at Universidad de Chile, Chile (2010), his M.Sc. from the Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) de Cachan, France (2006), his Electrical Engineering degree at Universidad de Chile (2003). and his B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineer degree at Universidad de Chile (2002). From 2015 to 2018 Rodrigo Verschae was a program-specific Assistant Professor, at the Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University. Before that, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University (2013-2015), a postdoctoral researcher at the Advanced Mining Technology Center (AMTC), Universidad de Chile, Chile (2011-2013), a research fellow at NDRC, Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan (2009-2010), a associated researcher at the Fraunhofer IPK-Institute, Berlin, Germany (2004-2005), and a research collaborator of the Center for Web Research at Universidad de Chile (2004). Rodrigo has participated in international projects, developed algorithms for large scale industrial projects, and is an active researcher with over 45 publications in international journals and conferences in the areas of Computer Vision and Machine Learning. In 2025, the Institute of Engineers of Chile honored Rodrigo Verschae with the Ramón Salas Edwards "Technological and Scientific Development Award" for his contributions to precision agriculture.
