About Roel Veerkamp
As a scientist I am interested in: i) methodology to utilise Big genetics Data (numerical genetics), ii) practical and theoretical animal breeding and connecting people and science. Examples of exciting projects are: i) bull genomes project, ii) the global Dry Matter Initiative (gDMI) combining feed intake data across the world, and the Breed4food programme. I have practical involvement with dairy cattle breeding organisations in several countries. In the Netherlands & Flanders I coordinated the organisation responsible for the genetic evaluation for bulls from 2010 to 2017 Since 2013 I hold a part time Professor position at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in AS and a visiting professorship at SRUC in Scotland.
