About Roger E.

I am a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor and have worked in my own private practice, Elley-Brown Consultants in central Auckland for over 25 years. My background includes a range of social service and people-helping work over my career of 45+ years and includes policy writing, pastoral ministry and teaching with house-painting added into the mix at various times. My client work is varied and involves a range of psychotherapeutic modalities. Over the past few years, I have trained in Emotional Focussed Therapy (EFT) for couples. In using EFT it gives me real satisfaction to see couples begin to relate more deeply, to communicate effectively and to build more respect for one another. I also work with both people suffering from depression and anxiety, or needing help with work and transition issues and suffering from grief or trauma. I offer professional supervision for individuals working in business, education, counselling and pastoral work. I have a holistic approach to mental, physical, and psychosocial wellbeing and wholeness and work with clients to achieve balance in their lives, their work, and in their relationships. A favourite saying I often use is: “It takes a great deal of energy to craft a good life.” The big decisions in my own life have been made with the needs of my own marriage and family paramount. Over the past nearly forty years I have made a big investment in my marriage relationship and family and consider this to be my life’s seminal work. I've also invested a lot of energy and time in physical pursuits such as tramping, and road cycling, and have cycled the length and breadth of New Zealand, and also overseas in Europe in Italy, France, and Spain. I'm currently section walking the km Te Araroa trail. My work with thousands of people over the past decades has confirmed the importance of multiple dimensions of wellbeing including physical wellbeing; I'm a real advocate of the many advantages of getting into the wilderness.
