Background
About Roger Peters
I am a developer who likes to wear many hats. I started coding and doing computer graphics around 1994 and I haven't stopped since. I love to code, but I have user experience chops as well, and I always feel compelled to take ownership of a project. After coding several years for traditional software development shops in the financial and workflow management space, I moved on to agency life as a freelance developer on a large project for Microsoft. Within three years I became the Director of Technology at that same agency, and represented the agency in numerous relationships for a variety of clients including Microsoft, Wells Fargo, Morgan Keegan, and numerous other brands. I managed an internal development team, external contractors, and development partners to successfully deliver multi-million dollar digital projects via web, mobile, and social executions. In 2012 I won a Samsung Galaxy Note development contest, and I used those winnings to leave my director role and become an independent freelance mobile developer so that I could focus explicitly on mobile apps and games. For 4+ years I worked on apps for local startups, subcontracted for larger consultancies and agencies on top-tier apps (UPS, AMC Theaters, YMCA, Coca-Cola), was a Xamarin University adjunct professor, and published several apps and games of my own. During this time I focused exclusively on Xamarin, Xamarin.Forms, and Unity for mobile apps and games. In 2017 I took a role as Xamarin Practice Lead at Perficient Digital where I oversaw the Xamarin practice, and helped define coding standards across my practice as well as across our larger organization. I worked on GM Financial for iOS and Android (an app which processes hundreds of thousands of car payments every month) as well as several other apps and sales initiatives. In 2019, I took a brief leave to spend time with my family after losing my wife to breast cancer. After some time off, I decided to switch gears, focus on React, and take a brief break from mobile. In 2019 and 2020 I focused on learning React, and was a major contributor to a headless WordPress website building numerous React components to render WordPress content via GraphQL queries. In 2020 I took over as Director of Technology at Narwhal Digital, now Alloy, where I work today. In this role I've served as lead architect on large decoupled projects (using NextJS) and overseen a team of developers, contractors, and partners.Specialties: Decoupled architectures, React, NextJS, AI, Mobile
