About Roger Varney

I am an experienced Land Manager and Project Manager in the energy industry. I oversee complex greenfield and brownfield NERC and FERC (7C, 7B, BPN, and BAA) regulated and unregulated electric transmission lines, distribution lines, pipelines, fiber lines, and related site acquisition projects for IOUs and cooperatives from inception to completion, managing schedule, quality, risk and cost. I have successfully negotiated complex agreements with various corporations and others regarding land rights issues and rights of way, including the issue of “exclusive rights” and the coordination with coal corporations regarding mining operations and mine plans with regards to development. I have extensive prior experience as the Senior Manager for Volkert Inc’s West Central Region which included all electrical transmission projects supporting Ameren Transmission (IL and MO) as well as Ameren’s AMI (smart-meter) and Vegetation Reclamation programs. I was also a Project Manager for complex FERC pipelines with Columbia Pipeline Group and as a Regional Land Manager for EQT Corporation, first in the Eastern Kentucky Region, subsequently I was in charge of all aspects of title and acquisition for EQT Midstream Pennsylvania projects. I have experience in all facets of energy project management (including wind, solar, and renewable natural gas), including the sustainable linear infrastructure route planning model, risk management, cost management, scheduling, negotiation of surface damages, eminent domain, and directly dealing with the bidding process in addition to managing all the above against budgeting constraints to bring projects in under budget and time requirements. I also have extensive experience in surface and mineral title management and review. I also have experience in fiber optic and cell tower right of way and site acquisition. I am active in the recruitment and use of diverse business partners. I continue to be a successful seller/doer by growing business opportunities with existing clients and developing new relationships to increase our services lines and grow profitability.
