About Rohan Gotobed

I am a theatre director, writer, and facilitator based between Dorset and London. Growing up in the South West has had an immeasurable impact on my professional practice. After moving away to train in Norwich and London, I chose to return home to create new opportunities for myself and other local artists. I’m deeply proud of my Dorset identity and consistently champion the region within the wider sector. My values and practice are most evident when discussing Dorsetborn, the theatre company I formed in early 2022. Over the last three years we’ve created three major productions alongside multiple R & Ds, workshops, and creative engagement projects. I have helped secure over of funding to create 50+ paid opportunities for freelancers, and engage with thousands of audience members. My work with Dorsetborn highlights an ability to think strategically and forge constructive relationships with stakeholders and potential partners. I've instigated collaborations with the National Trust, Dorset Libraries, National Youth Theatre, Poole Museum, Activate Performing Arts, Poole Lighthouse, Forest Forge, and Arts University Bournemouth – just to name a few. Between Dorsetborn and my freelance work, I’ve gained a great understanding of the cultural and heritage landscape across the UK. I am currently Arts Development Lead for the BCP Cultural Compact, helping to stimulate the creative industries in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. I’m happiest when meeting new people and always bring my relentless energy and enthusiasm to any role, gathering information and building relationships whenever possible.
