About Rohan Thomas

I'm a final-year Mechatronics Engineering student at the University of Newcastle, currently working as an Undergraduate Mechatronics Engineer at Lampson Australia. I’m passionate about blending hands-on engineering with practical project management. At Lampson, I help plan and deliver heavy-lift projects, create rigging studies and transport plans, and design an automation project of upgrading a legacy crawler control system from relay logic to a PLC-based architecture using PLC, ensuring that big transports move safely and efficiently. I’ve also had the chance to work with startups like Savic Motorcycles and Tee Ventures, designing everything from electric scooters to automated packing systems. Along the way, I’ve built autonomous robots, self-balancing systems, and custom PCBs, and I love getting my hands dirty with CAD modeling, FEA, embedded programming, and prototyping. Outside work, you’ll usually find me tinkering with robotics projects, learning something new in MATLAB or Python, or working on creative ideas that bridge mechanical, electrical, and software design. I’m always keen to connect with like-minded engineers, innovators, or anyone interested in robotics, automation, or complex project delivery.
