Pursuing a passion for radio, as a journalist and then commercial copywriter I honed my knack for making every word count. When that passion ran out of space in an ever-shrinking industry I took a practical sidestep into Communications, keeping my finger in a few freelance pies as a writer and voiceover professional. A desire to do meaningful work led me to a stint in the not for profit sector, leading the Communications team for Deaf Aotearoa, the Disabled People's Organisation representing and providing services to and advocacy for New Zealand's Deaf community. During this time I developed a strong interest in the role and value of internal communications in contributing to sustainable and resilient organisations. I'm thoroughly enjoying my opportunity to further explore this avenue in my current role at the University of Waikato.
