About Rohitha Silva

Professional History Rohitha is a Civil and Structural Engineer with over 25 years of experience in design and construction. During this time he has been involved in the design and construction of over 80 projects in both Australia and Thailand. Rohitha's design experience includes tunnels, bridges, buildings, underpasses, industrial plants, civil infrastructures airports and rails. He has worked for NorthConnex Tunnel (in Sydney) design and construction for more than 4 and half years. He also specialised in fire modelling and design of major structures in NCX tunnels for ISO fire and hydrocarbon fire etc. Rohitha's work experiences involved in tender designs, detail designs, value engineering, design deliveries, design verifications, proofed engineering, design management activities and has participated in various design alliances and risk workshops, durability workshops. Before joining SMEC, Rohitha worked at Unique Engineering and Construction Public Co, Ltd, a company which carried out design and construct contracts based in Bangkok, Thailand for more than 14 years and managed the Design and Technical Division. He moved to SMEC Sydney office in 2008 and has been working with SMEC more than 12 years. Rohitha delivered many public speeches in design and construction of bridges, infrastructure in Sri Lanka and Bangkok, Thailand. He has been a guest lecturer in Western Sydney University and University of New South Wales. Rohitha has fashioned for promoting engineering and he has been involved with IESL NSW Chapter for many years and held various positions, Secretary, Vice Chair and became 10th IESL NSW Chapter Chair. In addition to that he involved with many charity works. Recently, Rohitha joined with Beca (Transport & Infrastructure, NSW) as a Technical Director.
