About Roland S. Kalb
Dr. Roland Kalb was born in Austria in 1967 and has been a pioneer in the field of application and production of ionic liquids for 25 years. In 2003 he invented an industrial process for the world’s first halide and waste free production of up to ultra-pure ionic liquids (CBILS®-process). He founded proionic GmbH in 2004, which today is a global leader in industrial manufacturing and application development of ionic liquids. Roland Kalb is inventor on almost 200 international patents and is an editorial board member of the Journal of Ionic Liquids at Elsevier. He is an advisory board member and affiliate senior scientist at the Joint BioEnergy Institute, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California. Several of his inventions are commercialized today. Ionic liquids are a new class of liquid Deep Tech materials with extraordinary properties, among them nano-structural organization, extremely low vapor pressure and surprising solvation behaviour. With about publications and patent families, the wide field of their applications develops truly cross-sectional. Based on their unconventional properties Ionic liquids allow fundamentally new approaches to technical challenges: They have the potential to open doors to radical innovations.
