About Roland Straub

My specialization/skills; I’m electrical engineer by profession. During my professional career I had the opportunity to work in both specialization areas: “Electrical Maintenance” and “Engineering”. The beginning of my career, from 1987 to 1990, my responsibility was the organization of works of the electrical teams to ensure preventive and curative maintenance in a cement factory in Germany. From 1991 to 2004, I worked as electrical engineer at the 'Lafarge Technical Centre' based in Lyon. In the context of executing construction/renovation projects of the Lafarge cement plants all over the world, I was in charge to carry out design studies, which includes basic design, the drafting of technical specifications, organizing technical meetings, contracting, as well as tests and reception of electrical equipment, application programs. 2008 to today, My assignment as Lafarge - expatriate in construction sites. My new responsibilities covers the management and supervision of: a) Electrical installation works, b) Commissioning" activities regarding electrical tests including sensor calibrations and automation tests, bud also for mechanical tests, trial runs in the role an overall "Commissioning manager". All these missions abroad my country gave me the opportunity to act worldwide in more than 20 countries, to experience cultural differences and I always managed to integrate myself into the working context to obtain the best results. I want to highlight that safety in electricity is a major aspect. During construction phase all electrical tools, lighting. needs to be inspected and maintained. In order to secure “Energizing operations and Tests”, locking-out system was to put in place. Between 2004 and 2008, I had changed my career. As 'Project Engineer' in Lafarge’s “Le Teil” plant (France), my new responsibility consisted in the achieving of any project related to plant performance enhancement and its environmental compliance.
