About Romain Seil

Dr. Romain Seil is a Luxembourg-native Orthopaedic Surgeon and Scientist, extraordinary professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Saarland where he did his classes from residency to assistant medical director before moving back to Luxembourg in 2004. Currently he is head of the Division of Neurosciences and Musculoskeletal Diseases at the Centre Hospitalier Luxembourg (CHL), Luxembourg's first academic teaching hospital. He acquired a significant experience at senior management level in Homburg-Saar, at CHL, through his activities in the executive board of the European Society of Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) from 2002-2020 (where he served as president from 2016-2018), of the German-speaking society of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (GOTS)(presidency from 2018-2022), as well as in the scientific board of the Orthopaedic Institute Rizzoli in Bologna (I). In 2023 he has been appointed to the medical and scientific commission of the International Olympic Committee. Prof. Seil is internationally well known for his research on anterior cruciate ligament injuries in children, on advanced meniscus repair as well as his surgical and scientific work in knee surgery and sports traumatology. He edited more than 300 scientific articles and (co)authored many books and book chapters. RS is fluent in Luxembourgish, French, German and English, thanks to an international education and career in Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and USA.
