About Roman Levin

During my career, I was predominantly working in the fields of biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology microbiology and analytics in an academic environment. During my PhD thesis which is about to be completed, I worked on cell-free expression of membrane proteins. I established novel nanoparticle system for cotranslational expression of MPs and engineered our E. coli strain for optimized lysates for NMR studies. Furthermore, I intensively worked on refolding methods of caseine kinase 1 family proteins. During my master thesis, I cloned and expressed a cellobiose 2-epimerase in tyeast Y. lipolytica. My work implied techniques, such as CRISPR-Cas9, PCR, RT-qPCR, bioreactors, DNA isolation, chromatography methods, enzyme assays, HPLC, and other techniques. In 2016, I took part in a 6 month research program in China, in which I was doing research on the expression and characterization of novel cellobiose 2-epimerases. The research stay was kindly funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts Baden-Württemberg. During my study at the University Hohenheim, I helped to organize and supervise a practical course in enzyme technology for Bachelor students, and also gave tutorial lessons in organic experimental chemistry. As a part time work, I also worked as a caretakerfor the Körperbehindertenverein Stuttgart e.V throughout my studies, since I felt the necessity of social commitment and responsibility. Conclusively, my previous work provided me with very useful abilities combining an alytical mindset with strong social, didactic and communication skills which I can apply in three fluently spoken languages: German, English and Russian.
