About Romi Kupfer

Romi’s career began as a theatre maker, director, and producer, creating contemporary new performance in Australia. With a strong foundation in performing arts, Romi trained at Monash University and the Victorian College of the Arts / University of Melbourne. As her career progressed, Romi’s deep passion for mental health, accessible and inclusive practices, and youth arts naturally blossomed. She integrated these values into her work, earning qualifications in creative arts therapy and counselling. This has enabled her to blend her artistic practice with therapeutic approaches, creating empowering spaces for individuals and communities. In recent years, Romi channeled her diverse skillset into founding COJA, the Centre of Jewish Artists, which highlights the intersection of Jewish identity and artistic practice. Through COJA, she has become a key advocate for representation and visibility within the Australian creative arts sector. Romi is committed to creating artistic spaces that are accessible and inclusive for all, with a particular focus on amplifying the voices and lived experiences of young people. Her work continues to be driven by a desire to empower artists, nurture sustainable practices, and foster communities that celebrate creativity, diversity, and mental wellbeing. images by Pia Johnson
