About Ron Engels

For the last couple of years, I've been helping Coloradans access affordable health insurance for themselves and their families through my work at Connect for Health Colorado. I work there as one of four Scrum Masters. We facilitate our teams' Scrum ceremonies, of course, and guide the maturation of the Scrum journey of our development teams. We are in the early days of an enterprise Agile transformation, guiding the whole of Connect for Health to think and work within the Agile framework. I'm credentialed through Scrum Alliance as an Advanced Certified Scrum Master and through IC Agile as an Agile Facilitator. Most of my career has been in service to the students and teachers of the Denver Public School District. I worked there for 22 years. Those two decades gave me a unique perspective on Information Technology. Everything from watering the mainframe on a Friday afternoon to developing an entire enterprise reporting strategy. My team and I built DPS’s Operational Data Store from the ground up. We defined best practice around data stewardship and usage. We evangelized the importance of enterprise data. And we succeeded. The enterprise reporting we facilitated played an important role in improving student outcomes at the District. I was an imbedded manager, leading the team but also doing development and quality assurance work with the rest of the team. I have about 15 years of experience in local government. I served the residents of Central City as Alderman and as Mayor. I served four years as a Gilpin County Commissioner.
