About Ron Mansfield

Ron has been a criminal litigator for 25 years and has been practising as a barrister sole since specialising in providing clients with effective legal advice and representation in any criminal proceeding. Ron is a senior criminal trial and appellate advocate. He has developed a busy and well respected practice with a significant national profile. Ron is particularly recognised as having a speciality in defending his clients against drug prosecutions and related civil proceedings. In doing so Ron effectively focuses on the legality of any search and other admissibility issues arising from Police misconduct including breaches of the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act. Ron is also routinely engaged by clients in defending serious violence (murder/manslaughter and GBH), rape, high level fraud and regulatory crimes. However Ron is prepared to act for any client in defending a matter of significance to them and will do so with equal focus. This has included providing clients with effective advice and representation in matters involving serious traffic crimes, medico-legal prosecutions, military and court martial cases, sporting and drug body proceedings and defamation. Accordingly Ron routinely appears in a full range of criminal courts including Specialist Tribunal Courts, Coroner’s Court, District Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Ron has developed a strong and dedicated legal support team available to work with clients including barristers, research and briefing clerks, interpreters and private investigators (including those fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese). Ron is principally available only for private Instruction. However, Ron is approved by the Ministry of Justice for all categories of legal aid for criminal proceedings, but due to demand will only accept instruction for serious cases falling within categories 3 and 4 and only on a preferred counsel basis.
