About Ron Robusto

Ron Robusto iis a senior railroad officer with almost 40 years of industry experience. He has a passion for safety and is an expert in train movement and railroad operations. Ron started out with the Penn Central Railroad as a block operator (control tower operator) on the Baltimore Division in Maryland. He was a management officer for over 30 years with Amtrak. He held 19 different titles in both “line” level and “staff” positions, working in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, Los Angeles and Wilmington. He retired as the Senior Director System Operating Practices at Amtrak with responsibilities for developing and enforcing operating procedures, training of transportation, mechanical and engineering department employees, and auditing train movement operations throughout Amtrak’s national system. Over the years, Ron has worked closely with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Railroad Administration when major train accidents occurred. He is certified on derailment investigation methodology and was a qualified locomotive engineer and train dispatcher. He served as an FRA Railroad Safety Advisory Committee member and was also member of the American Association of Railroad Officers. He is a subject matter expert on all facets of the Federal Railroad Administration regulations. Ron believes that although human error is inevitable, train derailments are 100 % preventable. Through sound crew resource management principles and teamwork, errors can be caught and corrected before they lead to a serious railroad accident. Ron is currently the chief operating officer and vice president of safety and compliance for Transdev Service, Inc.
