About Ron Schack
Ron holds a doctoral degree in political science, a Master of Public Affairs degree and Bachelor's degree in philosophy, all from the University of Connecticut. Ron has expertise in performance measurement development; performance management system development; advanced statistical analysis (including forecasting and causal modeling) and multi-mode program evaluation. Dr. Schack has worked on performance measurement, continuous improvement, and decision support issues for 25 years, and co-authored a much-cited article on performance measurement development in Public Administration Review. Dr. Schack recently completed his first book, Confessions of a Data Scientist.or Warrior-Priest.and is working on a new book, on data fear, with his colleague Anne McIntyre-Lahner. Ron currently provides performance measurement and data analytic support to the Hartford Opportunity Youth Collaborative, the Juvenile Justice Policy and Operations Committee and CT Project Longevity. The work with Project Longevity includes analysis of data on shooting incidents in Hartford, Bridgeport and New Haven. Dr. Schack and his partners worked with the Connecticut General Assembly’s Appropriations Committee to develop an approach to applying Results-Based Accountability™ (RBA) to their budget process. In addition to his work with the Connecticut General Assembly Appropriations Committee, Ron developed a workforce development report card for Capital Workforce Partners (a local workforce investment board) and has assisted them in using performance measures in their strategic planning and budgeting efforts. Ron has also conducted evaluations and performance reviews of the Connecticut One-Stop Career Center System, the Hartford Youth Opportunity (YO) program, the Hartford Summer Youth Employment and Learning Program and is currently conducting an evaluation of the ECHO youth character development program for the Justice Education Center, Inc. Ron has also provided technical assistance to the Connecticut Office for Workforce Competitiveness, the USDOL ETA Older Worker Program and the Graustien Memorial Fund. When not doing performance measurement activities, Ron enjoys playing 12 string bass, practicing medieval longsword, rifle and pistol shooting, and reading about philosophy, cosmology, and military history. He lives in Manchester with his wife, Lisa, and their dog Rocko.
