Ron began his commercial real estate career with Mid-America Real Estate Corporation in its relative infancy in 1986. Having very successfully cold called and sold security systems for Sensormatic Electronics Corp. to retailers throughout the Chicagoland market, he quickly took to the business. Tenant Representation was an excellent match and his business and career took off. He was Mid-America's top producing broker virtually every single year.{Timing was perfect. I was fortunate to have David Bossy and Mike George choose me to join their company!} Over the span of his ten(10) years at Mid-America, Babos was the #1 Broker in terms of Total Lease and Sales Considerations generated! Ron has created over $500 million in lease and sales considerations thus far in his career.(approximately $2B in today's dollars!) When Helzberg Diamonds was looking for a broker to represent their interests in site selection and expanding their Jewelry3 concept, Larry Johnson, V.P, Real Estate called James F. Phillips, V.P, R/E for Jo-Ann Fabrics for his recommendation on who to use. Phillips suggested to Johnson,"Use Ron Babos at Mid-America.He is the best broker in Chicago!" For Jo-Ann Fabrics, Babos completed 38 deals for the retailer and Jim Phillips said,"We (Jo-Ann) were a distant third in the market (behind So-Fro Fabrics/House of Fabrics and Minnesota Fabrics/Hancock). Now we are a distant first!" Ron completed twenty five (25) new store deals for Barnett Helzberg, who later sold his company to Warren Buffet after the two met on an airplane flight. Ron began creating new business for Mid-America by securing exclusive representation agreements for local, regional, and national tenants such as Supercuts, Frank E. Furters Hot Dogs, and Cabinet Wholesalers. His second year in the business he brought in the 100,00SF Dania Furniture account and completed their first two store locations in Northbrook and Lombard with Per Thorsen and Erling Eide. He also secured the original Chernin's Shoes exclusive with Don Lord and Steve Larrick and completed ten(10) deals with that fine retailer.
