Background
About Ronald Singleterry
Experienced English Instructor with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Skilled in Lesson Planning, Educational Technology, Technical Writing, Organizational Development, and Teaching English as a Second Language. Strong education professional with a MFA English; BA English focused in Creative Writing; I possess 72 hours of credited English Coursework above my B.A. in English from the University of Southern California. I possess an M.F.A. in English Creative Writing from Chapman University in Orange, California. My academic work at the University of Southern California, Emerson College, and Chapman University prepared me to work in all areas of English and American literary studies. I love teaching all students every aspect of English, but, more specifically, to love the language as a means of discovering and understanding their identity—their authentic self—and their world. I use a rhetorically-based process approach to teach composition. My goal is to help students develop their critical thinking, reading, and writing skills necessary for success in all aspects of life. I have been teaching English for more than twenty years at the high school, college, and university levels to all ages and abilities in the United States and abroad—in Mexico, Japan, Kuwait, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and China. Writing is a rational activity, or, more precisely, writing is an exercise of mind requiring the mastery of techniques that anyone can learn. With that in mind, my minor degree in philosophy provided me a basic acquaintance with the history of philosophy, as well as, with its major areas. Additionally, the minor in philosophy was an opportunity to develop and extend my skills in writing and critical thinking. The study of philosophy is of great value to English studies given its emphasis on writing and analytical skills. I have a very open relationship to truth, and I believe that we are always eternal scholars of life’s many ontological questions. I am a rigorously hard-working, yet, easy going, individual who intensely loves language, as well as, helping others learn how to access a love or an appreciation of it, too.
