About Ronnie Thomson

Ronnie Thomson is currently based in Hong Kong and is Regional Director for the URS Group’s SE Asia operations. He has been with the company (as Scott Wilson prior to acquisition by URS in 2010) since 1989 and has 36 years’ experience in civil engineering infrastructure projects in Hong Kong, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, as well as in South East Asia, where he was based between 1992 and 2010. Ronnie is currently Chairman of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Hong Kong.His initial experience was with a South African contractor on major mining and railway earthworks projects. He then joined a Johannesburg-based consultancy. Following his relocation to New Zealand, he became involved with general civil and geotechnical projects including mini-hydro schemes. He resumed his work on tailings dams with a consultant in western Australia, and then became Technical Manager for an Australian-based company undertaking geotechnical projects. He joined Scott Wilson in Hong Kong as Senior Geotechnical Engineer in 1989 and was responsible for the day-to-day management of Hong Kong’s Geotechnical Team. Ronnie relocated to Thailand in 1992 to represent Scott Wilson as Regional Manager then a Director with responsibility for SE Asia in 2001, which included two years based in Kuala Lumpur. Since then Ronnie has been Project Director and/or Project Manager on most of the Company’s projects in SE Asia, including a range of major infrastructure works, buildings and industrial projects. During his time in Thailand Ronnie developed the business to almost 100 staff and generally grew the firm’s business throughout SE Asia.
