About Roopa Bose

I am a Ph.D. candidate with 7+ years of research experience and 3+ years of tech industry experience. My research focuses on digital accessibility, including analyzing websites for WCAG compliance, proposing recommendations, and developing AI-based software solutions to tackle graphics accessibility problems. Starting my career as a software engineer with a non-computer science degree set me on a path of constant learning. As a software engineer, I developed multiple web applications and web services using.NET technologies. Several projects and teams I worked with gave me the experience to tackle different challenges. From developing software during initial automation to collaborating with multiple teams to build applications for big companies, it was a joy to be part of all phases of SDLC. One of the web services our team created increased employee productivity by 100% for a famous retail brand. After 4 yrs. in software development, my aptitude for problem-solving led me to pursue a master’s degree and later a Ph.D. in computer science. The industry experience helped me focus on practical solutions for problems in academia. The need to acquire new skills always excites me, whether machine learning, computer vision, or new platforms and languages. Being a proactive person, I never shy away from additional responsibilities. Accepting roles like a lecturer, chair of the department conference and participating in an innovation competition to become the first runner-up; all helped me with leadership and team player skills. I am a dynamic person who enjoys spontaneous adventure, meeting new people and reading. I also enjoy being a creative teacher to my preschooler and nieces. My personal and professional experience also led me to be an advocate for people with disabilities.
