About Rory Ryan

I am a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institution of Engineers Ireland with over 10 years’ experience in civil engineering consultancy and project management. I have specific experience in international teams delivering water supply, telecoms and power cable projects including onshore and marine works. In 2011 I joined MDM in Dublin as a Project Engineer where I progressed to become Associate Director. I am currently working as a full-time consultant for MDM from Madrid, Spain. MDM have a particular focus on subsea fibre optic cables and I have been involved in the successful delivery of CeltixConnect-1 from Dublin to Anglesey (2012), the Galway Bay Cable Observatory (2015), AEC-1 from Mayo to New York (2016), and Rockabill from Dublin to Southport (2019). I graduated from UCD, Dublin, Ireland with a BEng (2004) and ME (2007). I worked for 1 year as a part-time lecturer and tutor in the Civil Engineering Department of Dublin Institute of Technology. I then joined PH McCarthy/WYG Ireland where I worked for 2 ½ years as a Design Engineer on the water team. I spent 10 months working as a Water Engineer & organisational capacity builder with two community based organisations in Kenya during 2010.
