About Rosalind Carson

With an extensive background in mathematics education, I've dedicated over a two decades to refining teaching methodologies that enhance spatial reasoning and mathematical understanding among K-12 students and teachers. My approach is hands-on, working alongside educators in Alberta to deliver professional development sessions that intersect research with practical classroom applications. At the University of Calgary, my studies as a PhD student, research work, and volunteer roles focus on the types of mathematics content knowledge teachers use for the work of teaching. My ongoing studies, commitment to academic excellence and sharing my work with practicing teachers exemplifies my commitment to scholarship and leadership in the field. My mission is to cultivate an environment where teachers and students collaboratively explore mathematical concepts, thereby laying a solid foundation for flexible and enjoyable learning experiences. My current contribution to education was through my lead research assistant role to facilitate and redesign the mandatory STEM Education undergraduate course at Werklund School of Education. Over a year of research and one year of implementation - this fall (2025) will be the term to test the scope of learning from this course. Enthusiastic instructors and resources ready - I look forward to participating and supporting the students' learning from the STEM Education course.
