Background
About Rose James
As a recent graduate from McGill University’s Bachelor of Education program specializing in English literature, I am eager to continue my teaching journey. I have extensive experience teaching in various secondary schools, both within the private system and the public system, across Montreal, Kingston, and Toronto. These opportunities have provided me with valuable insights into instruction, classroom management, and strategies for adapting to unique and unforeseen classroom events. I have also had the pleasure of contributing to and participating in the extracurricular communities of the schools at which I have worked, including: supervising student council programs (Vincent Massey Collegiate, Montreal QC; Marymount Academy, Montreal QC), serving as an assistant debate team coach (Selwyn House School, Montreal QC), and participating in various facets of school life in my current position as an Associate Teacher at University of Toronto Schools (UTS) in Toronto, ON. In order to further enrich and inform my teaching practice, I am currently completing my M.A. in the Social Justice Education Program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). This program has helped strengthen my passion for and commitment to using my platform as a teacher to support and develop my students’ understandings of the complex and urgent socio-political issues at play in our society and the role they play in building healthier futures. My passion for social justice is integral to my teaching philosophy and continues to shape both my classroom practices and my selected teaching materials. My current SSHRC funded thesis research focusing on developing pedagogical strategies for reimagining and decolonizing the high school English curriculum will further aid me in transferring these values from belief into practice. Feel free to connect with me!
