About Rose Loftus

I am a graduate student and researcher at the University of British Columbia, specializing in collaborative water governance. My work bridges quantitative analysis, modeling, and policy to support sustainable and community-informed resource management.Currently, I develop lab and lecture materials for UBC forestry courses using the Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS-BC) and R, and support students and instructors in integrating growth and yield modeling into applied forest management. As a Teaching Assistant for Forest Policy (FRST 415/523), I facilitate discussions, assess coursework, and help students connect policy concepts to real-world management challenges. My previous research experience includes analyzing the cost-effectiveness of forest disease mitigation strategies for the BC Ministry of Forests and contributing to the Water Justice Hub by synthesizing research on community-led approaches to water governance.Broadly, I’m interested in how data-driven tools, policy frameworks, and local knowledge can be integrated to improve forest and water management outcomes. I aim to contribute to the development of adaptive, equitable, and evidence-based resource management practices across British Columbia and beyond.
