About Rosie Blakely

I am an international school teacher with four years of experience. I have taught self-contained primary classrooms at an IB-candidate school, and mathematics, English, economics, and sociology at a Cambridge International school (Lower Secondary and IGCSE). Alongside my teaching roles, I have filled in as department coordinator, coordinated ELL programmes, established a school-wide reading buddy programme, and acted as faculty adviser for student council. My proudest teaching achievements include- Helping 100% of my IGCSE students achieve a grade of A- or higher- Supporting low-level ELL students acquire English and achieve high grades in mainstream English classes- Empowering struggling math students to build confidence and competence via self-paced learning units, and - Maintaining excellent relationships throughout my family of learners. I call myself a "tenacious teacher" because I refuse to give up on growth: both for my own teaching practice and for each individual student. I have a lifelong passion for investing in others' development. Even as a student, I volunteered for youth programmes and sports coaching, and worked part-time tutoring younger students. I studied law, economics and psychology and initially worked as a public sector solicitor. I found my way to professional teaching after moving to Japan. After a brief stint teaching English as a foreign language, I decided to make a career change and became a certified teacher. I am incredibly grateful that I made that choice. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy the outdoors. During winter break, you will most likely find me taking advantage of Japan's wonderful ski resorts and incredible snow.
