About Ross Backen

During the past 30 years Ross has gained a broad background in the areas of counselling, rehabilitation, corporate health and organisational psychology. Originally trained in sport psychology, also spent over 10 years focused on the psychology of people within organisations. He remains one of only two presenters selected as the first wholly Australian company to work privately with Harvard University Health Services, a division of the famous Harvard University. In conjunction with Accor Asia Pacific, Harvard Health Services developed a range of health related programs to be offered within the Accor hotels. Ross presented the Harvard material throughout the Asia Pacific region. Ross specifically focused on Stress Management and methods of more effectively dealing with stress in our lives. In 1997 Smart Rehabilitation was born as a division of Feedback International. As a Director of Smart Rehabilitation Ross focused on a multi-disciplinary team approach. Within this team Ross’ role was to provide psychological services related to occupational health and rehabilitation as well as the management of the Smart Rehabilitation Health Centre. After 6 years of involvement at Smart Ross made the decision to down size and get back to what he loves and does best and that is work closely with people in their growth and development. For the past 17 years he has successfully been in private practice as part of LifeConnexions a local Wollongong counselling clinic. Historically his recognized specialization in the Illawarra is the treatment of chronic pain. In 2008 Ross decided it was time for another challenge and applied to do the Masters of Clinical Psychology. This was completed in 2013. Most recently he has gain recognition in Schema Therapy as an advanced trainer and supervisor. In addition he also gained advanced training in EMDR, a therapy known for its effectiveness in treating trauma.
