About Ross Coates

Currently employed as a Project Engineer for Tracerco within the specialist measurements department operating within the Oil & Gas and the petrochemical industries. Typical projects involve the supply of special nucleonic instrumentation to processing plants to improve safety and maximise throughput. My involvement starts from the initial bid phase all the way through to delivery and commissioning. Main duties are to oversee and drive key activities such as planning/coordinating a multi-discipline engineering team, costing the project, procurement, evaluating performance, producing quality documentation and procedures as well as improving/developing current manufacturing methods. Previously, I’ve spent over four years within the nuclear power industry involved with the construction of Hinckley Point C nuclear power station. Initially I was appointment as a Manufacturing Engineer where I later progressed to a project engineer. Main responsibility was to oversee the manufacture of large scale fabrications such as stainless steel panels, slot gates, hatches and hoist pits. Prior to this I was a time served structural plater primarily operating within the offshore, renewable energy and nuclear power sectors. During my training, I have developed from an apprentice to a fully qualified tradesmen competent in the manufacture and repair of small to large scale components by utilising fabrication, welding and machining disciplines in accordance with engineering drawings and relevant British Standards. Recently completed my bachelor’s degree in engineering management (BSc - Engineering Management), graduating with 1st class honours. Previously studied a L5 foundation degree (HND) in mechanical manufacturing (FdEng Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering) where I graduated with distinction. Along side my apprenticeship I also gained a HNC in fabrication and welding which was awarded in 2018.
