About Ross Davidson

I have recently begun working as Commercial Manager at Turquoise Mountain, connecting artisans in Afghanistan with the international market. Prior to this I spent three years at The Etiquette Group working as Commercial Operations Director. An enjoyable three years working alongside the MD to grow the company from a small start up to an established industry leader. In 2021 I completed an MSc in Political Economy of Development at SOAS, where I spent the year gathering in-depth knowledge of development theory and economic growth in the Global South. The opportunity to study at SOAS gave me the unique chance to study more heterodox understandings of global development, broadening my mindset to developmental challenges and solutions. I plan to use these skills moving forwards in a role that combines my interest in politics and economics in a developmental capacity. My dissertation focused on failures of development in Afghanistan, with strategies for development in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa of particular interest. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of York, where I studied Economics and Politics Ba (Hons). This gave me a comprehensive mainstream understanding of economic growth on the micro and macro level. It also granted me the opportunity to expand my political knowledge and begin to marry the two subjects.
