Background
About Ross Dobson
PhD student in Exoplanets and Machine Learning at the UCL Centre for Doctoral Training in Data Intensive Science, supervised by Dr Vincent Van Eylen of UCL's Mullard Space Science Laboratory. My research focuses on time-series exoplanet radial velocity data, using multi-dimensional Gaussian processes to better characterise correlated noise from stellar activity, allowing us to detect smaller exoplanets. I also investigate the optimum sampling rates and choices of ancillary data to use in the Gaussian process. I am experienced in coding with Python and JAX, including Python package development with automated testing, documentation and continuous integration. Graduated with First Class Honours in MSci Astrophysics from UCL, specialising in exoplanets, instrumentation and scientific computing (including machine learning) with experience in Python and Java. Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, Member of the Institute of Physics.
