Chief geologist, Company President, COO. Ross McElroy is a multiple award-winning chief geologist and is the president and COO of Fission Uranium. He is one of the most successful uranium explorers in Canada, leading Fission's team to success with two major, high-grade uranium discoveries in three years, including Fission Uranium's Patterson Lake South discovery and Fission Energy's Waterbury Lake discovery. For his role in the PLS discovery, PDAC 2014 awarded Ross the Bill Dennis award for exploration success,The Northern Miner named him 'Mining Person of the Year' 2013 and The Mining Journal awarded him and his team with their Excellence award in 2015 for exploration success. In total, Ross MrElroy has been instrumental in four of the last nine major discoveries in Canada's Athabasca Basin - the world's largest source of high-grade uranium. This includes being part of the small geo team that made the McArthur River discovery (the world’s largest high-grade uranium discovery) In total, Ross McElroy has racked up over 30 years as a professional geologist. He spent his early years in the industry with the Majors including Areva, Cameco and BHP Billiton and moved over to the junior exploration space in 2003. The time he spent with the Majors have given Ross McElroy a particular edge that many other Geos in the junior mining space don’t have - experience of every aspect of the mining industry, from concept through to mine construction and production. He understands how the Majors think and act – what they want in a discovery and from the Juniors that they work with. As the head geo and part of the management team for an exploration company, this sort of knowledge and experience is invaluable.
