About Rouxbin Smit

Development needs a locally-driven, Human Rights-Based Approach to succeed in sustainably empowering communities and I am part of that movement through my policy, lobbying, & advocacy work. I am a passionate and accomplished international development professional who has worked and studied across the globe and excelled in many areas ranging from research to events organization. I have worked with numerous public organizations and proven my abilities as an innovative thinker and leader of people, as well as a meticulous money manager and talented content creator. I primarily use these skills to support campaigns on issues close to my heart, especially human rights and social justice in Africa, which I practically pursued during my internship at Africa Unite. I recently graduated from Sciences Po in Paris with a Masters degree in International Development, with a primary concentration on Africa and Human Rights. Prior to this I spent five years at the University of Washington in Seattle, studying for my Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Finance. During my time in the US, I worked for a number of organizations including the regional African Chamber of Commerce, where I helped to instigate major events for public figures among many other duties. Most recently I have been working towards the improvement of human rights in my native South Africa, leading public workshops and authoring various press materials. In addition to my diverse vocational skills, I am a native-level speaker in both English and Afrikaans with additional knowledge of Spanish. I am also confident with a variety of software applications, such as: Canva, Procreate, Concepts (design program) Stata (data science and statistics application) Audacity (audio engineering software) Microsoft Office (full proficiency, with further MS Excel Credential) I am determined to develop my potential as a global development, and I am highly keen to communicate with like-minded and committed professionals.
