About Roxanna E. Bauer

Beyond my passion for creating life-like birds out of wood through various skilled processes such as drawing, measuring, carving, texturing and painting, my career has touched and built on all of these facets. As a natural resource, and a most beautiful one at that, I've learned to treat wood with such care and respect as to enhance its charm throughout its years. Some finishing techniques can speak to this, but every fine detail and perfectly performed step depends on surface preparation. One needs a keen eye and meticulous hands to lay a pristine foundation. In the event of a defect, I sometimes smile and allot its own charm, whether a natural discrepancy or human error, it can add character. However, my mastery is in the field of touch-ups, colour-matching and repairs and so I can either camouflage a defect or make it disappear. Not only do I have the privilege to perform on wood and it's enhancing finishes, I also have come to love and recognize inherent characteristics and behaviors of another living resource which makes our world an intricacy of beauty: natural and artificial stone. I enjoy what I do in every moment, both when the challenges are familiar and easy, as well as when they are painstaking new experiences to learn from. Having expanded my role to engineering liaison, thanks to F/List Canada, I have also grown to appreciate not only the raw materials and end products that we manufacture, but also the design processes and the certification processes. This allows a deeper understanding of the materials I've always worked with, I now recognize further intricacies and limitations. All living things can be related through a micro-macro web of connections. Our human relations are just as intricate as the fragile but sturdy make-up of wood or stone, or any material, as all origins are from something which 'lives'. To understand the limitations of stress on materials and products can be relative to understanding limitations of stress on ourselves, our colleagues, our loved ones. From that understanding, we can grow to be kinder, stronger, more resilient and adaptable.~ Roxanna E. Bauer ~
